Simplicity

We believe that simple and small actions will take us to big and sustainable actions and impact.

Why GGRAA?

The current world’s development is not sustainable! Over exploitation of natural resources, environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity and climate change are the big issues affecting the planet, human well-being and threaten the lives of future generations. Furthermore, awareness and actions from the grassroots are still limited or in some places none existence. Most of vulnerable communities especially in rural Africa depend only on subsistence agriculture for their survival. There is a need for robust grassroots education and mobilization to boost awareness, quick and various actions.
Everyone is concerned. Small as well as big actions are needed. If everyone on earth is aware about environmental crises and takes action, sustainable development can be achieved at a satisfying level and more communities can be graduated from extreme poverty to sustainable livelihood and climate resilience.
Using the activities of everyday life, from making and consuming a cup of coffee in the morning to the banana smoothie in the evening, GGRAA is embarking on green awareness, environment protection, climate resilience and sustainable development.

Our expertises

Our approaches are based on the belief that knowledge creation and praxis lead to sustainable solutions.

GGRAA combines environment, development, health and climate change approaches with other global approaches to address climate change, human health and environment crises and to achieve the sustainable development agenda. The following are some of our approaches

Community-based adaptation (CBA) to climate change

GGRAA is engaged in enabling implementation of climate change global strategies at the grassroots. Within the local context and using local knowledge, we link the top down to bottom up approaches to enhance local community participation and inclusiveness in achieving global agenda. GGRAA supports communities to become active participants in addressing climate change and environment crises and to achieve the 17 sustainable development Goals.

The triple-bottom line of sustainability

GGRAA values the three pillars of sustainability (people profit and planet). In our work, we encourage and support our stakeholders, customers and partners to integrate the social, environment and economic values in their work to ensure that sustainability is considered at different levels of work in the society.

Ecosystem based adaptation and nature based solutions

According to IUCN, “Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) involves the conservation, sustainable management and restoration of ecosystem solutions to help people adapt to the impacts of climate change. Those are nature-based solutions that harness biodiversity and ecosystem services to reduce vulnerability and build resilience to climate change”.

  • GGRAA uses everyday life to increase nature based solutions and grassroots green initiatives by improving people’s knowledge, awareness and understanding about key issues affecting the environment, climate change, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and how human actions can be environment friendly while benefiting people.
  • GGRAA explores this approach by promoting ecotourism, green and responsible tourism. Tourism not only can contribute to the economic development of countries and people but also can be the best tool to address climate change, environment degradation and to improve human health and well-being.
  • In addition, we support communities to improve and benefit from non-timber products such as honey, bamboo products while they contribute to biodiversity conservation.

Sustainable livelihood, livelihood diversification and community engagement

Those are three interconnected approaches used in project and program management to integrate communities especially vulnerable groups in the process of addressing key issues affecting them. Community members become central actors and work with other stakeholders to ensure their participation, engagement, decision making and ownership of what is being done for them.

  • GGRAA supports community groups in community based planning to assess problems, available resources and to develop and implement strategic plans and identified projects. Accordingly, community members are able to improve their livelihood, to cope with stress, shocks and seasonality and to become climate resilient.

Mainstreaming gender and social protection

Gender equality and social protection are cross cutting approaches integrated in our work. We value that everyone from her/his social identity would benefit from our work. We empower and equip women, youth and vulnerable groups with knowledge and skills that open up opportunities and support them to have access to various resources that enable them to improve their standards of leaving. Sustainable development should leave no one behind.

GGRAA is open to partnerships. Join us in this green venture, partner with us to spread the green message and to enhance engagement to restore the planet and African’s treasures. GGRAA believes that, there is no one solution to address environment and climate change crises and to meet human needs. We explore using different approaches and strategies to reach many people and to find solutions with them. This will allow communities to take actions from different perspectives and contexts, and which can be scaled up to other communities.
